McNeil Farms is dedicated to preserving our wonderful environment. With this in mind we strive to utilize only reusable supplies in our mushroom growing business.

The culinary mushroom business has gotten a bad rap for the use of disposable plastic bags for growing mushrooms. While these bags are easy and efficient, they cannot be reused so they ultimately end up in landfills.

At McNeil Farms we only use glass and plastic supplies that can be washed, sterilized, and reused again and again for infinite batches to come.

Our leftover substrate also serves a purpose. Instead of throwing it out, it goes into the composting bin to create nutritious compost for our seasonal herbs and produce. Our substrates are composed of straw, hardwood pellets, wheat bran, and coffee grounds.
